Project Description:
Each year in Orange County an average of 300 children emancipate from the foster care system. Of those, approximately 50% will end up homeless and living on the streets within the first year. The Orangewood Resource Center at the Foundation serves as a drop-in facility for these young adults. They receive food, hygiene supplies, clothing, and support on everything from job searching, school, or housing. The Foundation provides approximately 35 bags of groceries to foster youth in need each week and over 70 bags of hygiene each month. These services cannot be provided without the help of local businesses and their employees. Holding a supply drive can be fun and rewarding way to support these youth without a lot of effort. Some ideas include: ? Hold a friendly competition between offices or departments by seeing who can collect the most items with the winners receiving a prize. ? Get customers and vendors involved in the cause by letting the know how they can help. ? Offer individuals the option of donating gift cards or money for groceries rather than actual items. ? End the drive with a packing party to create care kits for the youth with special messages of encouragement. Once the drive is completed, employees can personally deliver the items to the Orangewood Children??s Foundation and have an opportunity to see the Resource Center first hand.
