New York Cares is New York Cityâ??s largest volunteer organization. Founded in 1987, New York Cares runs volunteer programs for 1,200 (1,187) nonprofits, public schools, and city agencies to help meet the critical needs of people living in poverty. New York Cares offers a full range of volunteer opportunities, including helping children learn to read, preparing meals for homeless and housebound people, helping low-income students get into college, delivering job training to unemployed men and women, revitalizing public parks and schools, providing companionship and meals to the elderly, giving coats to those who donâ??t have them, and much more. Project Description:
Join New York Cares and 7,000 volunteers to paint murals and classrooms, organize libraries, and brighten up playgrounds at 100 public schools. The work you'll put in is worth well over $1 million in service to the New York City public school system. New York Cares Day is an incredible day of service and a critical fundraiser that supports the 11,000 volunteer projects New York Cares runs year-round. Special Skills or Tools Required:
No special skills necessary. You will receive a t-shirt on the day of the event. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes and be prepared to get them dirty!
