Agency Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC is a 106 year old agency. The agencyâ??s mission is to provide mentors to all children who need caring adult role models â?? a special friend who can help expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures â?? changing their lives. We also seek to train community organizations in every neighborhood, empowering them to establish their own mentoring programs. The agency has many specialized mentoring programs to target the varing needs of NYC youth. We have programs for teen moms, children of incarcerated parents and children with disabilities. We have pioneered the Workplace Mentoring Program where NYC youth are exposed to the workforce and gain the skills necessary to reach their full career potential.

Project Description:
Faciliated by a Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC social worker, volunteers will be interacting with students in multiple classrooms at a NYC public high school. Volunteers will answer questions about their career path and provide students with tips for their future. Topics to be addressed will include: what do you do in your job, did you have any summer internships when you were a student, how did you decide what you wanted to do when you grew up, how do I write a resume and what do I wear to an interview.

Special Skills or Tools Required:
Volunteers should be interested in sharing their career path with students looking to develop their own career potential. All materials and specific points to address will be provided the day of the project.
